James Compton 3, b in Delaware Co. N. Y. Sat, July 8, 1797, m Betsy Orr, b. 1801, daughter of Walter and Mary (Craig) Orr, of same county, in 1822. Removed to Erie County, Pa. (Washington Tp) in about 1835. Removed to Fairview, Erie county, in 1849, and back to Washington Township in 1850; followed lumbering and the manufacture of wooden bowls, though farming was his chief pursuit. In 1869 removed to Minnesota, and from there in 1870 to Columbus, Nebraska, where he d Thurs. Nov. 28, 1878. His wife died there Sun. Mar 6, 1887.

Both buried in Columbus Cemetery, Columbus, Platte County, Nebraska, his gravestone lists his name as "Jos" (typically an abbreviate for the name Joseph) and hers spelled as Betsey.
