John Compton 1 was born in New Jersey, and Helena Shearer was a native of Holland, but the dates of their births I have not been able to obtain. Miss Lorinda Wicker 4, a great granddaughter who died at Meadville, Pa. in 1892, visited them when she was quite young, and she said they then lived just across the state line in Pennsylvania. She further said that Helena (Shearer) Compton attained the age of one hundred and eleven years. Their early life was probably spent in New Jersey. -- Murat Compton, Washington, PA, May, 1899. Most likely married before 1765 as fifth child was born in 1770. Might possibly have been married in 1758 at Rumbout (Poughkeepsie), Dutchess, New York according to The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record (quarterly), 1938, selected extracts (page 288). The marriage ID for this record is 2220285665.
