| Josiah Johnson Compton 3, a fourth son and eighth child of James and Clarissa (Cleveland) Compton was born Tues. Feb. 23, 1808, at Deposit, Delaware county, N. Y. He m first in 1831, Julia Church, b at Belchertown. Mass. Mon. Oct. 13, 1806. She was a daughter of John Church, (b Feb. 2. 1750) and Julia (Woodard) Church (b June 9, 1768) who were m Mar. 12, 1790. Josiah Johnson Compton m second, Fri. Apr. 25, 1851, Mrs. Anna Maria (Wentworth) Peek, widow of Uriel Sylvester Peek, and daughter of David and Hannah (Gould) Wentworth, b Sat. July 13, 1816, in Richfield, Otsego county, N. Y. and died in Edinboro, Pa. Sun, Mar. 13, 1898. Josiah Johnson Compton 3, was one of the early settlers of Erie county, Pa. moving from Moscow, N. Y. to Washington township in that county, in 1834. He first lived on the farm now owned by Putnam Jeffords, but in 1839 moved to the farm now belonging to his son, Homer Compton, where he lived until 1871, with the exception of two years, 1848-50, spent in Fairview, Erie county, and four years, 1863-67, in Erie, Pa. He was a skillful farmer and cattle dealer; in company with his brother John, was, for several years, at what is now McLane, Pa. a merchant, also manufacturer of shovel handles. He was elected commissioner of Erie county, 1854. In 1871 he removed to Russell, Russell county, Kan. but was obliged on account of ill health, to return to his former home, and in 1873 he settled, with his wife, in Edinboro. Pa, where he died Sat.
