| Hugh Compton, second child and first son of James Compton and, Clarissa (Cleveland) Compton, was born at Delhi, New York on Wednesday 9 Dec 1795. He married Allynda Burt, daughter of Luther and Priscilla (Compton) Burt, on Sunday 17 Mar 1822, at Leicester, Livingston County, New York. Allynda Burt Compton died Wednesday 26 Aug 1835, at Ypsilanti, Washtenaw County, Michigan and is buried in Otisville Cemetery in Belleville, Wayne County, Michigan. Hugh Compton remarried to Martha Proudfit, daughter of Alexander and Martha (McCleary) Proudfit, on Thursday 8 Dec 1842, at Edinboro, Erie County, Pennsyvlania. Martha Proudfit died Tuesday 28 Jan 1890, at Edinboro, Erie County, Pennsylvania and is buried in Edinboro Cemetery. Hugh Compton was a soldier in the war of 1812, serving in Capt. Denio's Company of the New York Regiment. Later he was a farmer at Pike, Wyoming County, New York from 1822 to 1826 and in Leicester, Livingston County, New York from 1828-30. He made wooden ware in Rochester, Monroe County, New York from 1830-1931, and owned three acres of land where Market Bridge now stands (1901). He moved to Ypsilanti, Washtenaw County, Michigan where he lived from 1831-1832. From 1837 to 1854, he moved several times between Erie County, Pennsylvania and Crawford County, Pennsylvania, living in Washington Township, Woodcock Township, Fairview and Edinboro. He moved to Jonesville, Hillsdale County, Michigan in 1855, then to Burritt, Winnebago County, Illinois from 1856 to 1863, from which he relocated to Blooming Valley, Crawford County, Pennsylvania. He moved once more in 1864 back to Edinboro, where he died Monday 8 Apr 1878 and was buried in Edinboro Cemetery. He was a farmer during most of his active life. — War of 1812 Veteran Pvt.
