Notes

Highpoint at Chestnut Grove (owned by Jim & Glynora Watterson)
1105 Wesley Street Oxford, GA 30054-2235
High Point at Chestnut Grove is a Federal two-story style house with Iconic columns built in 1822. Five bays were added in the 1830-40’s along with 4 additional rooms and porches. It is believed to have been built by New England designer-builder, Collin Rogers. John Pace Carr called his home “Highpoint” probably because the Carr family once lived in N.C. near the town with the same name. The Wattersons purchased High Point in 1975 and moved to its present site in Oxford, Georgia. This site was once owned by Methodist Bishop James O. Andrew and was called “Chestnut Grove.” The combined name is now the official title. Photographs and plans were filed with the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C in 1935 by the first historic American building survey, later renamed the National Registry of Historic Places. Today, High Point at Chestnut Grove is furnished with period furniture collected including Civil War memorabilia.
